The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary Invites Visitors to Get Closer to Nature this Christmas.
The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Nature Centre – based at Suffolk’s premier visitor destination Stonham Barns Park at Stonham Aspal – is organising a fun-to-do Christmas Story Trail for visitors this year who want a memorable day out while getting closer to wildlife over the festive period.
‘The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary treats and rehabilitates sick and injured native birds of prey and has
a huge and varied collection of birds of prey which are regularly featured in flying displays for
the public. At the Nature Centre are mammals too including Meerkats – most recently introduced Porcupines, Armadillos – Red Squirrels and Hedgehogs.’
The Christmas Trail featuring Bonnie the Barn Owl’s Christmas story lets visitors see the real-life animal characters around the sanctuary. At each page of the story visitors collect a stamp and once finished collect a small prize and enter a raffle to win a cuddly toy Barn Owl!
The Christmas Story Trail is from 16 – 29 December at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Nature Trail. Admission to visitors is £11.50 for adults, family tickets are available and children below the age of 3 go free.
Emily Quantrill from the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary says, ‘The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary looks forward to welcoming families and friends who visit us over the festive period for our Christmas Trail. It will be an awesome Christmas experience to get closer to nature with our birds of prey and small mammals this year. It’s an easy to complete trail and if visitors would like to see more on the day, they are welcome to extend their visit to the whole Sanctuary.’
‘This is what holiday memories are made of and who knows it might even snow while families are on the trail! For those who complete the trail successfully they could be in with the chance of winning a prize.’
‘It’s another initiative from the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Nature Centre to bring people together to see nature in close up. You could even call it a Christmas walk on the wild side!’
There are over 80 birds to see including Owls, Falcons and Vultures. There are also bug
hotels, a Christmas Story Trail, children’s play areas and more.
Adopt and animal gifts make popular Christmas presents at this time of the year too. They are
available – from £5 monthly upwards. Owls currently up for ‘adoption’ include Cobweb the Barn
Owl, Titch the Tawny Owl, Cecil the Spectacled Owl and Tura the Siberian Eagle Owl along with some of our mammals!
Established as a registered charity in 2001, the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary is based at Stonham Aspal in Suffolk, where it operates a comprehensive facility for the care and rehabilitation of owls from the region, and the promotion of owl conservation throughout the UK and beyond. The Sanctuary is open to the public all year round funded by public donations.
